Lasting impact of work of Carl Linnaeus (1707-1778) on ethnobotanical species in India.

摘要

The world celebrates 2007 as the tricentenary year of birth of Carl Linneaus, who established the procedure of classification of plants and animals, and the binomial system of nomenclature. Hundreds of ethnobotanical species in India were first named by Linneaus; hence, Linneaus is inseparable part of names of such plants. Brief life sketch of Linneaus, and several examples of ethnobotanical species named by Linneaus are given in this paper.
