Outotec Atmospheric Zinc Concentrate Direct Leaching Process - Past, Present and Future

The Outokumpu (now Boliden Kokkola) zinc plant at Kokkola in Finland has since the start-up more than 40 years ago been using roasting - leaching - solution purification - electrowinning - casting process. Since then these zinc plant processes have been improved together with the plant capacity expansions several times. One of these events was the development and implementation of the Outokumpu (now Outotec) Atmospheric Zinc Concentrate Direct Leaching Process in 1990's. After that Outokumpu during acquisitions had incorporated the Norzink (now Boliden Odda) zinc operations at Odda in Norway, the Outotec Zinc Concentrate Direct Leaching Process was also implemented at this plant site. Recently a new application of the Outotec Zinc Concentrate Direct Leaching Process has been started up in PR. China. This process can case by case be combined with all the other zinc technologies of Outotec into one technology package, which also includes Outotec proprietary equipment, automation-instrumentation package and project services.
