Reciprocating compressors, being equipment that is in operation for decades, require modification because of operational changes, new legislation or higher demand for reliability and efficiency. For instance compressors used for underground storage of natural gas need to be upgraded for a wide range of operating conditions with a high flexibility demand. Precise control of gas input and output to the storage facility is of importance to meet the delivery commitments. Especially the requirement of part load operation increases and energy saving becomes more important.
