The article discusses the effects of heat integrating the crude distillation, vacuum distillation and the Coker units in a refinery processing heavy crude oil. Considerable energy and investment cost reductions are identified in the integrated case. In addition, integration of a gas turbine with the Steam and Power system and with the major process furnaces is examined. This offers additional energy cost savings, however at increased capital cost.
