Background, aim and scope Toxicity testing has become asuitable tool for wastewater evaluation included in severalreference documents on best available techniques of theIntegrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) Directive.The IPPC Directive requires that for direct dischargers as wellas for indirect dischargers, the same best available techniquesshould be applied. Within the study, the whole effluentassessment approach of OSPAR has been applied fordetermining persistent toxicity of indirectly dischargedwastewater from the metal surface treatment industry.
