Western Plains Energy Receives Grant

The Western Plains Energy plant in Oakley, Kansas, will receive a US$5 million federal grant to build a machine to improve the process of converting ethanol into fuel, according to U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack. The funds will be used for a biogas anaerobic digeseter, which will replace 90 percent of the fossil fuels the company uses to process waste from a cattle feedlot. Western Plains produces about 50 million gallons of ethanol per year, according to the Topeka Capital-Journal.
