Report Details Risk of Biofuel Crops Becoming Invasive Species

The National Wildlife Federation has released a report detail- ing the risk of biofuel crops becoming invasive species. The report explores the challenges and policy solutions surround- ing the use of non-native and potentially invasive bioenergy crops. Numerous non-native and genetically modified spe- cies are already being considered for use as biomass feed- stocks. Without proper precaution, producers run the risk of unleashing the next big invasive species catastrophe that could devastate native ecosystems, deplete scarce water re- sources and require significant resources to control, accord- ing to the report.
