Coping with Trailer Claustrophobia

Many horses become fearful and nervous when asked to go into a small space, such as through a narrow door into a stall, through a gate, or into a horse trailer. Others are reluctant to enter stalls and pipe corrals with low overhang. For most, these are instinctive, automatic responses to protect the horse from becoming cornered. Others may have once caught a hip on a stall door or latch, or bumped their head going under a low overhang. As a result, they may refuse to go forward and if they do, theymay bolt through the opening.
