Evonik, LanzaTech Collaborate on Bio- Processed Precursors for Specialty Plastics

German specialty chemical maker Evonik Industries announced December 9 that it signed a three-year research cooperation agreement with New Zealand-based gas-toliquids developer LanzaTech to combine its existing biotechnology platforms with LanzaTech’s synthetic biology and gas fermentation expertise for the development of a route to bio-processed precursors for specialty plastics from waste derived synthesis gas (syngas). “In this route, microorganisms placed in fermenters are used to convert syngas into chemical products,” according to a statement issued by Evonik.
