Cargill 2Q 2014 Fiscal Earnings Up 36% Year-on-Year

Minnesota-based agribusiness firm Cargill Inc. reported January 9 net earnings of US$556 million in its 2014 fiscal second-quarter (2Q) ended November 30, 2013, up 36% from $409 million in the previous year. Second-quarter revenues decreased 7% to $32.9 billion, which brought first-half revenues to $66.7 billion. The company’s agricultural supply chain results decreased in the quarter compared to the prior year “due in part to an industry-wide build-up in oilseed crush capacity that reduced crush volumes in certain markets, including South America,” according to Cargill in a statement issued by the company.
