NREL, JM, LanzaTech Developing Methane-to-Diesel Microbial Conversion Scheme

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) announced January 16 that it’s teaming-up with catalyst maker Johnson Matthey (JM), biocatalyst developer LanzaTech and the University of Washington on a scheme for converting methane to diesel fuel via microbial technology. “A microbe capable of digesting methane could save countless tons of greenhouse gas from reaching the atmosphere during the hydraulic fracturing process,” according to the NREL.
