The Morphology of Flies of the Temnostoma apiforme and T. vespiforme Groups (Diptera, Syrphidae): Communication II

Morphological characters of Temnostoma vespiforme and species and subspecies previously regarded as its synonyms (Peck, 1988) are examined. T. sibiricum and T. sericomyiaeforme are considered as separate species. Two new subspecies of T. vespiforme, T. v. altaicum ssp. n. and T. v. tuwensis ssp. n., are described. A key to males and females of the Palaearctic species examined is given. A morphological analysis performed has revealed a high variability of many characters and their parallel variation within the species groups studied.
