On the Distribution of a Ladybird, Coccinella fulgida Brown (Coleoptera, Coccinellidae), in Northeastern Asia

Coccinella fulgida Brown, widely distributed in northern Canada and Alaska, has been found in the Lena Delta and in eastern Chukehi Peninsula. The population in the Samoilovskii Island in the Lena Delta has high density, four other species of coccinellids common in the North are found co-occurring with C. fulgida but in fewer numbers. In spite of an intense investigation of the insect fauna in the northeastern most Asia in the last 40 years, almost every year brings new interesting records. During this period, 14 new species of beetles of the families Byrrhidae, Chrysomelidae, Apionidae, and Curcu-lionidae have been described from the tundra zone of Yakutia, Magadan Province, and Chukchi Autonomous District, and several species previously known onlyfrom North America have been found there. The systematics of the Circum-Polar fauna of the family Staphylinidae remains poorly known although in the number of the species in the tundra zone the rove-beetles are probably second after carabids. In the latter family many species were described from tundra in the early XX century, and the revision of the high-latitude North American fauna by Lindroth (1961-1969) in the mid-century had revealed a considerable proportion of the taxa common to the faunas of Northeast Asia and the Pacific Northwest of America.
