摘要

Gali Olimpievna Krivolutskaya, a Senior Researcher at the Laboratory of Entomology, the Institute for Biology and Soil Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Far Eastern Division), a member of the Russian Entomological Society, Doctor of Biology, passed away on February 26, 2007, at the age of 83, after a prolonged illness. G.O. Krivolutskaya was born on March 30, 1923 in Moscow, in the family of a mining engineer. Already as a child, she travelled with her father in the Urals, Western and Eastern Siberia, the Transbaikalia, and the Northern Caucasus. These early impressions aroused her interest in nature and traveling. In 1947 Gali Olimpievna graduated from the Biological Faculty of Moscow State University and continued working at the Department of Entomology, where she carried out her first research (on oribatid mites) under the supervision of Prof. A.A. Zakhvatkin. Her enthusiasm for scientific research and field work made her leave Moscow in 1949 and go to Sakhalin, where she investigatedinsect forest pests at the Sakhalin Branch of the Academy of Sciences. Under the supervision of A.I. Kurentsov she began her research of bark beetles, Gali Olimpievna maintained her Candidate's thesis Bark Beetles of Sakhalin Island in 1954, and prepared a monograph under the same title in 1958. This book summarized the data on taxonomy, distribution, ecology, tunnel structure, and economic importance of 63 species of bark beetles; 26 species were reported for the first time from Sakhalin, and 4 species and 2 infraspecific forms were described as new to science. This monograph was highly appreciated by experts and won a Prize of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences.
