A REVIEW OF THE SPECIES OF MYRMELEON LINNAEUS, 1767 (NEUROPTERA: MYRMELEONTIDAE) FROM MAINLAND CHINA, WITH THE DESCRIPTION OF A NEW SPECIES

Eight species of the genus Myrmeleon from mainland China are reviewed. One species, M. ferrugineipennis n. sp., is described as new to science. A key to the known species of Myrmeleon from mainland China and their geographic distributions are given. KEYWORDS: Neuroptera, Myrmeleontidae, Myrmeleon, new species, China Myrmeleon was proposed by Linneaus in 1767. There are 176 species of Myrmeleon in the "Catalog of the World Antlions" (Stange, 2004). Ten of them have been reported for mainland China: M.bimaculatus Yang, 1999, M. bore (Tjeder, 1941), M. coalitus Yang, 1999, M. exigus Yang, 1999, M. formicarius Linnaeus, 1767, M. fuscus Yang, 1999, M. immanis Walker, 1853, M. krempfi Navas, 1923, M. solers Walker, 1853, and M. nekkacus Okamoto, 1934. Three species in this catalog (M krempfi Navas, 1923, M. solers Walker, 1853, and M. nekkacus Okamoto, 1934) were not found in our research. In 2006, M. cir-culis Bao and Wang and M. trigonois Bao and Wang from China mainland were described. In 2007, M. coalitus Yang, 1999 was proposed as a new combination of Hagenomyia coalitus (Yang, 1999).
