DISCOVERY OF FEMALE ADULT OF SCOPURA JIRI JIN AND BAE (PLECOPTERA: SCOPURIDAE) FROM KOREA

Previously unknown female adult of Scopurajiri Jin and Bae in the wingless stonefly family Scopuridae is described from Korea with figures of key characters. The female adult ofS.jiri can be distinguished from other congeners by the rudimentary projection in the posteromedial margin of the abdominal sternum VIII. S. jiri is distributed in the southernmost part in the Korean peninsula. The wingless stonefly family Scopuridae is geographically limited to the Korean peninsula and Japanese islands and restricted in habitat in high mountain headwaters (Jin and Bae 2005a). Presently, eight species of the family are known in Japan (Scopura bihamulata Uchida, S. longa Ueno, S. montana Maruyama, and S. quattuorhamulata Uchida) and in Korea (S. gaya Jin and Bae, S. jiri Jin and Bae, S. laminata Uchida, and S. scorea Jin and Bae) and all their adult and nymphal stages were described (Ueno 1929, Uchida and Maruyama 1987, and Jin and Bae 2005a, 2005b) except for the female adult ofS.jiri. We recently discoveredfemale adults of S. jiri from the type locality and additionally from a place in southern Korea.
