The first fossil dorylinae with notes on fossil ecitoninae (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)

Two army ant species, Dorylus molestus and Neivamyrmex iridescens, are reported from copal of undetermined age (possibly Upper Pliocene and Pleistocene respectively). The presence of such fossils is remarkable given the disposition of many such species to foraging underground. Until more precise dates for this material are available, historical and biogeographic implications of these fossils remain uncertain.
