Supplemented Description of the Subgenus Poecilodrusus Korotyaev et Meleshko, Genus Polydrusus Germ. (Coleoptera, Curculionidae)

The description of the subgenus Poecilodrusus Korotyaev et Meleshko, 1997 of the genus Polydrusus Germ, is supplemented on the basis of an examination of the second species of the subgenus, P. elegans Reitt. The subgenus Poecilodrusus Korotyaev et Meleshko, 1997 was established for Polydrusus viridicinctus Gyllenhal, 1834 (Korotyaev and Meleshko, 1997) after morphological investigation of the endo- and exoskele-ton and genitalia in a number of species of the subgenus Eustolus Thomson, 1859. In the anatomy of the head, prothorax, and genitalia of the both sexes, P. viridicinctus (Fig. 1) clearly differs from other species placed in Eustolus, with the exception of the very closely related P. elegans Reitt. Only characters of the type species were usedin the original description due to the lack of material for morphological investigation of P. elegans. The subsequent examination of the morphological characters of the latter species makes it possible to somewhat clarify and supplement the characterization of Poecilodrusus.
