摘要

Studies of the acoustic properties of the scale covering the wings in the moth Barathra brassicae (L.) have shown that removal of the wing scales decreases the noise behind the flying insect. The sound level is reduced via absorption of a significantpart of the sound energy, as well as via laminaiization of the air current by the scale covering. This property of the covering allows the nocturnal moth to withstand attacks of predators in the night sky.
