The Taxonomic Status of the Far Eastern Populations of Lepyronia coleoptrata (Homoptera, Aphrophoridae)

The size and coloration of the body and structure of the male genitalia were compared in specimens of Lepyronia coleoptrata collected in European Russia, the northern Caucasus, Kazakhstan, Siberia, and the Far East. All the characters examined producethe variants intermediate between the typical and Far Eastern forms. Calling signals of the Far Eastern form differ from those emitted by individuals from European Russia in the absence of the long and complex initial fragment. At the same time, the second part of the signal is identical in both forms. Thus, the Far Eastern form belongs to L. coleoptrata, but represents a separate subspecies. L. coleoptrata grossa Uhler. 1896.
