Taxonomy of Nematocarcinus (Decapoda, Nematocarcinidae). Results of Reinvestigating the Collection of the Indo-West Pacific Nematocarcinus from the National Museum of Natural History (Washington, USA)

Nematocarcinus undulatipes Bate, 1888, N. tenuipes Bate, 1888, N, productus Bate, 1888, N. subtilis Burukovsky, 2000, N, kaiensis Burukovsky, 2000, N. -subtegulisfactus Burukovsky, 2000, and N. richeri Burukovsky, 2000 have been found in the collection of the Indo-West Pacific Nematocarcinus of the US National Museum of Natural History (Washington) (R/V "Albatross" samples). Distribution and several quantitative characters (number of teeth on the rostrum and of dorsolateral spines on the telson, armature of ischii of pereopods 1--5 and meri of pereopods 1) are defined more precisely. A new species, N, chacei, from the Aden Bay is described. It differs from other Nematocarcinus species in a lack of spines on the ischium of pereopods 3 and 4. The lectotype and paralectotype of N. undulatipes Bate, 1888 are established based on the specimens of the type series deposited at the Washington Museum. A defined diagnosis mentioning new taxonomic characters is given.
