Specific features of biology of Pandalopsis dispar (Crustacea, Decapoda, Pandalidae) in the western Bering Sea

Major parameters of the life cycle of Pandalopsis dispar Rathbun 1902, from the western Bering Sea are essentially different from those described for the same species off British Columbia. The longevity of P. dispar in the western Bering Sea is no less than 7 years (7-9), as compared to only 4-5 years off British Columbia. In the area studied, the larvae hatch in May-June, become mature in the second year of life, and spawn as males for three years. The sex change begins in spring-summer, 4 years after hatching. Females spawn in late summer. The egg development time is 10-11 months in the western Bering Sea and only 5-6 months off British Columbia.
