The increase in global liquefaction capacity is expected to quicken in the coming years, gas exporting countries forum GECF says. Global liquefaction capacity had increased to 350mn t/yr by the end of 2016 from 260mn t/yr in 2010 and a further 40mn t/yr is expected to start this year. A total of 450mn t/yr of capacity already exists or is under construction and scheduled to be completed before 2020, GECF says. But the organisation projects global liquefaction capacity of 650mn t/yr in 2020, with growth slowing after this and 800mn t/yr available in 2040.
