USEPA's Vapor Intrusion Guidance Could Significantly Expand the Assessment and Mitigation of Vapor Intrusion

In June 2015, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA or agency) released its long-awaited guidance on assessing and mitigating vapor intrusion from constituents in soil or groundwater seeping into overlying buildings: Technical Guide for Assessing and Mitigating the Vapor Intrusion Pathway from Subsurface Vapor Sources to Indoor At (USEPA VI Guide or guide). The USEPA VI Guide is intended to be used by the agency and state agencies as they evaluate sites under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and the federal Brownfields program. The agency had been operating under draft guidance since 2002.
