A field experiment was conducted during rabi season of 2001-02 and 2002-03 in sandy loam soils with nine treatment combinations replicated four times in randomized block design consisting of two intra-row spacing, two levels of fertilizer and two crop durations along with a standard control for comparison. The results revealed that there was no effect of the treatments on plant emergence and number of stems per hill. However, the number of stems per hill was affected as the percent emergence within the plots varied. Small tubers (<10 g) were more in number and yield in all the reduced intra row spacing compared to the control where standard spacing of 60x20 cm was followed. Seed size (10-40 g) tuber yield was significantly more under both 60x15 and 60x10 cm spacing.
