摘要

A centrifugal clarifier based on the principles of a hydrocyclone was developed for clarification of sugarcane juice for improving the quality of jaggery and khandsari. Design dimension proposed for a 12.5 cm diameter hydrocyclone was used. Unlike the hydrocyclone, an agitator was used to provide the required centrifugal force. The developed clarifier had an aluminium sheet body, had a cylindrical height of 21 cm and conical height of 28 cm. The developed clarifier was tested for its separation efficiency in regards of effect of operational parameters, namely, settling, boiling, clarificant addition and sampling time. The overall separation efficiency for the developed clarifier ranged from 41.52 to 70.23%.
