Comparative studies on morphometric characters of Apis mellifera F. and Apis cerana indica F. in North Bihar conditions.

Studies on morphometric revealed that length body of queen and worker of A. mellifera L. and A. c indica Fab. were 15.00 mm, 10.00 mm, 10.48 mm and 7.00 mm, respectively, whereas body weight of their castes (queen and worker) of both the species were 105 mg, 75 mg, 90 mg, and 65 mg respectively. Thus, the queen was larger than worker in both the species. Further, body length was larger including hevier weight of Apis mellifera than A. c. indica. Remaining morphometric characters were similar as length of leg, tongue, mandible, antenna, forewings and hind wings which were measured larger in queen and worker of A. mellifera while shorter in both castes (queen and worker) of A. cerana indica which were found to vary significantly between castes and species of honeybees.
