摘要

An investigation was carried out with five representative samples in each soil type of alluvial and red soil of Burdwan district to study the nutrient status of these soil types under long term cropping system. The parameters included determination of soil total nitrogen, total phosphorous, total potassium content, pH, porosity, particle density, organic carbon, soil bacterial population, soil arthropod status. Each of the study sites represented a distinct variation in the different soil parameters. Major crops cultivated last five years in these two soil types in selected area were rice and green vegetables. Alluvial soil crop lands is irrigated by the water of river Damodar and the red soil crop lands were irrigated by the effluent water of Burnpur steel factory. Both the soils had high clay content and were alkaline in nature. Iron content was higher in the red soil due to presence of iron oxides in various forms. With regard to the organic carbon, phosphate, potassium, alluvial soil was found to be more fertile than the red soil.
