Isolation and Identification of Bacteria from Mastitis Effected Cattle and Antibiogram Study of Isolates

The aim of study is to identify the bacterial cause of mastitis by isolation from milk samples of mastitis affected cattle in and around Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh and to evaluate the antibiogram profiles of isolates. 100 milk samples from mastitis affected cattle were used for bacterial isolation and their antibiogram profile during the year 2015-16. The samples were cultured on nutrient agar, mac-conkey agar and EMB agar plates, supporting the growth of bacteria for their study and isolation of organisms. The major pathogen isolated was Escherichia coli (50%), Staphylococcus (22.5%), Streptococcus (17'.5%) and Klebsiella (10%). Antibiogram profile indicated that gentamicin (84%) proved to be most effective antibiotic followed by ampicillin (80%), streptomycin (79%), enrofloxcin (72%), cephalexin (65%), ciprofloxacin (60%), azithromycin (37%), ceftrioxone (30%) and tylosin (10%). Isolation of the bacterial organism from mastitic milk is related to the public health concern and the antibiogramprofile re-vealed that the most effective antibiotic used for the treatment of the disease.
