Effect of Application of Spent Wash as a Source of Potassium on the Uptake of NPK and S by Maize

A filed investigation was carried out in farmer field near Godavari Bio-refineries at Sameerwadi during kharif of 2012 to study the effect of application of spent wash as potassium source on the uptake of nutrients by both grain and stover of maize inthe sandy clay loam soil. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with seven treatments replicated four times. The recommended dose of potassium to maize was substituted with spentwash at 0.25,50,75,100,150 and 200% levels. The results ofthe experiment revealed that the uptake of NPK and S at both grand growth and harvest stage of the crop was significantly higher in the treatment T, receiving recommended dose of potassium through spentwash in conjunction with potassic fertilizer (MOP)each at 50% level. However, this particular treatment was significantly superior over the treatments receiving spentwash at higher levels (75.1(X), 150 and 200%), respectively, but it was on par with the treatment Tand T_1 which receiving 25% of recommended dose of potassium through spent wash and the recommended dose of potassium only through chemical fertilizer (control), respectively.
