Ovules of Gossypium arboreum cultivar BD-5 were aseptically excised from ovaries 50 h after anthesis and floated on Beasley and Ting medium supplemented with different combinations of growth regulators. Response of in vitro cultured ovules was observed for callus induction frequency, callus growth, fiber growth, ovule growth, normal ovule development and in ovulo embryo development frequency. Maximum callus induction frequency and callus growth were recorded on the media having 0.5 or 1.0 mg/liter kinetin and 1.0 mg/liter IAA and 0.5 mg/liter kinetin, respectively. Maximum in vitro fiber growth was also observed on medium supplemented with 1.0 mg/liter kinetin. Medium with 1.0 mg/liter IAA and 0.5 mg/liter each of kinetin and NAA gave maximum frequency of normal' ovule development and in ovulo embryo development.
