Technological gap in recommended rice production technology by the farmers in Manipur

A study was conducted to assess the extent of technological gap in recommended rice production technology by small, medium and marginal farmers. The data were gathered from 200 rice farmers in valley areas of Manipur, India. The technological practices selected for the study were: use of high-yielding variety seeds, seed treatment, sowing rate, time of nursery raising, plant spacing, number of seedlings per hill, transplanting time, quantity of fertilizer use, time of NPK application, and plant protection. It was found that majority of medium farmers showed partial gap in adopting the recent technological practices. However, in plant protection practices, marginal farmers showed full and partial gap. This might be because poor farmers cannot adopt this practice due to high cost of chemicals and plant protection equipment..
