Effect of Organic Manures on the Productivity of Black Gram (Phaseolus mungo) with and without Fertilizer

Field experiment was conducted on rainfed terrace land during pre-rabi seasons of 2003 and 2004 to study the effect of organic manures on black gram (Phaseolus mungo) productivity and soil fertility with and without fertilizer. The eight treatments consisted of sole application of three organic manures viz., FYM, rabbit manure and pig manure at 10t/ha and their combinations at 5t/ha with 50% NPK and was compared with 100% NPK and control. The results revealed mat integrated application of 50% NPK along with rabbit manure at 5t/ha recorded significantly higher growth, yield attributes and seed yield (17.67 q/ha) of black gram compared to control (7.69 q/ha) but remained at par with integrated application of 50% NPK along with pig manure or FYM at 5t/ha. Application of all the organic manures at 10 t/ha recorded pod yield and seed yield at par with each other but was found statistically superior to control. Application of rabbit manure, pig manure or FYM individually at 10t/ha or their integration at 5t/ha along with 50% NPK could improve or maintain the available NPK status of the soil. Therefore, integrated application of organic manures along with reduced dose (50%) of NPK is recommended for higher productivity of black gram.
