Effect of locally available substrates and supplements on spawn run and yield of oyster mushroom (Pleurotus eous).

Four substrates (wheat straw, paddy straw, rice husk and saw dust) and their combinations at 1:1 ratio w/w were tested for their effect on spawn run and yield of oyster mushroom in Jammu, India. The supplements used were rice bran, wheat bran and gram powder at 5 and 10% at spawning; and mustard cake at 2.5 and 5%, neem cake at 2.5 and 5% and urea at 0.25 and 0.5% before spawning. The best returns and yield were obtained with wheat straw combined with paddy straw, supplemented with mustard cake at 5%, gram powder at 5% or wheat bran at 10%.
