Nine insecticides/acaricides were evaluated for efficacy against the red spider mite (Tetranychus urticae) infesting aubergine in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India during May 2002. These insecticides were: Propargite 75 EC at 0.018%, Abamectin 1.9 EC at 0.0005%, Endosulfan 35 EC at 0.07%, Fenpropathrin 10 EC at 0.03%, Dicofol 18.5 EC at 0.05%, Phosalone 35 EC at 0.03%, Ethion 50 EC at 0.05%, Sulfur 80 WP at 0.25% and Dicofol 5 WP at 0.05%. Observations were taken at 1, 3, 7 and 14 days after spraying. All insecticides were effective in reducing infestation, relative to the control treatment. Among the insecticides, Dicofol 18.5 EC was the most promising against the mite, and sulfur was the least effective..
