Association of panicle characters in tall indica aman rice under new alluvial zone of West Bengal.

The correlation and path analysis of 10 yield characters (panicle number/plant, panicle length, primary branch/panicle, secondary branch/panicle, grains/panicle, unfilled florets/panicle, 1000-grain weight, panicle weight, unfilled florets percentage and grain yield/plant) of 35 tall indica Aman rice were evaluated during the kharif season of 2002 in West Bengal, India. Grain yield was positively and significantly correlated with panicle number/plant, panicle weight and grains/panicle. These characters showed high direct effect on yield. Yield improvement can be obtained through improvement of panicle number/plant and panicle weight..
