Forty-five candidate plus trees (CPTs) of Dalbergia sissoo were selected from different locations of Himachal Pradesh, India, for studying variability and screening of desired traits. The maximum heritability, genetic advance, genetic gain, phenotypic and genotypic coefficient of variability, and variability for physico-chemical characteristics of wood and growth parameters CPTs of D. sissoo were recorded. A wide range of variability was observed for all the growth and physico-chemical characteristics of D. sissoo. The values for phenotypic and genotypic coefficient of variability, heritability, genetic advance and genetic gain ranged between 2.88-49.47, 2.84-49.46, 68.6.-100, 0.05-40.36 and 5.78-101.88%, respectively.
