A study was conducted to examine the changes in the dermal melanophores of freshwater catfish, Mystus vittatus, which were collected in Annamalai Nagar, Tamil Nadu, India, exposed to lead nitrate. The fishes were subjected to four exposure periods: 24, 48, 72 and 96 h. Results showed significant periodic degeneration and subsequent regeneration of melanophores at different exposure periods..
