A field experiment was conducted in Nawanshahr, Punjab, India during the rabi season of 2003-04 to investigate the response of gobhi sarson to different transplanting methods and N rates (100, 125 and 150 kg N/ha). The transplanting methods were: flat transplanting (45x15 cm and 67.5x15 cm); bed transplanting (1 or 2 crop rows/bed; in each or alternate furrow). Bed transplanting of one crop row/bed in each furrow (EF) produced the highest values for number of secondary branches, silica/plant and 1000-seed weight, while bed transplanting of one crop row/bed in alternate furrows produced high number of seeds/siliqua. Bed transplanting of 2 crop rows/bed produced higher seed yields than the other transplanting methods due to higher plant density. N at 100 kg/ha produced higher 100-seed weight than the other treatments. N application increased seed yield and significant response was observed up to 125 kg/ha..
