7A 2-year field experiment was conducted in Manipur, India during 1999 and 2000 to investigate the effect of tuber size (30, 40, 50 and 60 g), and transplanting method (single stem separated and transplanted without tubers; and whole plant transplanting with tubers) on the performance of potato cv. Kufri Joyti. Growth characters and tuber yields were unaffected by tuber size. Tuber yield was maximum (274.67 and 258.67 q/ha) with a tuber size of 40 g and whole tuber transplanting, respectively. The highest sprouting was observed in 60-g tubers. Whole tuber transplanting also resulted in the highest tuber sprouting. The highest cost benefit ratio (1:3.91) was obtained with 30 g tubers and whole tuber transplanting..
