Growth Parameters, Yield and Yield attributes of Two-Rowed Barley Exaggerated by Seed Rate and Row spacing

A field experiment was conducted with four different seed rate treatments viz. 75 kg/ha, 87 kg/ha, 100 kg/ha and 112 kg/ha and three row-spacing viz. 18 cm, 20 cm and 22.5 cm were compared in the split plot design with four replications having forty eight plots by using variety BH 885. The growth parameters (plant height, dry matter accumulation and leaf area index) and yield attributes (number of effective tillers, number of spike and test weight) significantly increased with seed rate and narrowness of spacing. Among seed rate at 112.5 kg/ha resulted in significantly highest harvest index (43.10%), grain (5,542 kg/ha), straw (7,332 kg/ha) and biological yield (12,854 kg/ha) over other seed rates and in row spacing at 18 cm provided significantly higher straw (7,071 kg/ha) and biological yield (12,184 kg/ha). However, it was at par with row spacing at 20 cm (6,979 and 12,112 kg/ ha) respectively. Lowest grain yield (4,144 kg/ha) was recorded in the treatment having 75 kg/ha, which resulted in reduction of 22.5% grain yield of barley as compared to 112.5 kg/ha treatment. On the basis ofone year results it may be suggested that barley crop should be grown with seed rate 112.5 kg/ha and row spacing of 18 cm for yield purpose.
