摘要

The present investigation was carried out to estimate genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance among twenty six genotypes of pearl millet for 10 characters. These hybrids were evaluated in randomized block design with three replications during kharif of 2014. Analysis of variance indicated presence of considerable variability for all the 10 characters. High GCV and PC V were observed for harvest index (%) and grain yield per plant (g) in comparison to other characters indicating the presence of high amount of genetic variability for these charracters. Selection for these characters would be effective because the response to selection is directly proportional to the variability present in the experimental material. In the present investigation, high to moder-ate GCV along with moderate heritability was observed for harvest index (%), test weight (g) and grain yield per plant (g) whereas moderate heritability along with high genetic advance was observed for harvest index (%), test weight (g), and grain yieldper plant (g) indicating the importance of these traits in selection and crop improvement.
