A field experiment was conducted during summer of 2010. The experiment consisted of sixteen treatment combinations comprised four levels sulfur viz., 0, 10, 20, 30 kg S/ha and four levels of phosphorus viz., 0, 20, 40, 60 kg P 2O 5/ha were embedded in factorial randomized block design with three replications. The results showed that application of 30 kg S/ha recorded significantly the highest seed yield (819 kg/ha -1) and straw yield (1551 kg/ha -1). An application of 30 kg S/ha -1 recorded significantly the highest nitrogen (4.00 and 1.92%), phosphorus (0.474 and 0.347%), potassium (0.766 and 0.887%) and sulfur (0.298 and 0.238%) concentration in seed and straw as well as protein content (24.43%) in seed. Significantly the highest uptake of nitrogen (34.58 and 29.67 kg/ha -1), phosphorus (4.75 and 4.66 kg/ha -1), potassium (7.67 and 15.34 kg/ha -1) and sulfur (2.39 and 2.94 kg/ha -1) by seed and straw was observed with application of sulfur @ 30 kg S/ha -1. Application of 30 kg S/ha -1 recorded the highest S content (9.91 kg/ha -1) in soil after harvest of the crop.
