Evaluation of molluscicidal effect of the pesticide nuvan on the disease transmitting snails Lymnaea acuminata and Bellamya bengalensis

The molluscicidal effect of the organophosphorus pesticide Nuvan [dichlorvos] on Lymnaea acuminata and Bellamya bengalensis was investigated. Mortality of 50% was recorded with Nuvan at concentrations of 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20, 0.25, 0.30 and 0.35 ml/litre pond water under laboratory conditions. L. acuminata survived for longer periods compared to B. bengalensis at all the test concentrations.
