A field experiment conducted during kharif 1997 and 1998 on clay loam soil at experimental farm to study the effect of plant population, fertilizer levels and farm yard manure (FYM) on rice. Application of 125% RFD (125 kg N 4- 75 kg P_2O_6 + 37.5 kgK_2O) coupled with high population density (44 hills / m~2,) significantly increased giain and straw yieldsof rice over 100% RFD (100 kg N + 60 kg P_8O_5 + 30 kg K_2O) with recommended population density (33 hills / m~2) Application of FYM in combination with chemical fertilizer significantly improved plant height, panicle length, 1,000-grain weight, grain and straw yields of rice over plots without FYM application.
