An experiment was conducted in West Bengal, India, during the 2003 and 2004 summer seasons to study the effects of different levels of irrigation and mulch (mulching with rice straw at 6 t/ha) on the performance of summer groundnut cv. TAG 24. The irrigation treatments comprised: 4 irrigations at branching, flowering, pegging and pod development stage; 3 irrigations at flowering, pegging and pod development stage; 2 irrigations scheduled at pegging and pod development stage; one irrigation at development stage; and no irrigation. Data were recorded for number of pods per plant, number of kernels per pod, 100 kernel weight, shelling percentage, harvest index, oil content, pod yield, kernel yield, oil yield, total N uptake, total P uptake and total K uptake.
