The physicochemical changes in the properties of mine spoils due to a 54-month old even-aged plantation of different tree species were investigated at a site in Madhya Pradesh, India. The maximum increase in organic matter and available nitrogen wasunder Cassia siamea followed by Dalbergia sissoo, Albizia procera, Leucaena leucocephala and Eucalyptus tereticornis. However, E. tereticornis recorded the maximum decrease in the soil pH followed by C. siamea in these mine spoils. Among different treespecies E. tereticornis recorded maximum survival, collar diameter and height followed by C. siamea, A. procera and D. sissoo while the minimum was observed in Prosopis sp. followed by Albizia lebbeck. There was a highly significant positive correlationbetween plant height and organic matter/available nitrogen and pH and significant negative correlation between collar diameter and soil pH/organic matter and available nitrogen.
