Soil fertility status of rice growing soils of four villages of Haringhata block under Nadia District of West Bengal.

One hundred and twenty surface soil (Typic Haplaquepts) samples were collected from the rice growing plots of four villages (viz., Uttar Duttapara, Kurumbelia, Mollabelia and Dasdia) of Haringhata block under Nadia district of West Bengal, India, and were analysed to evaluate the fertility status (available nitrogen, available P2O5 and available K2O status) of the study area and study their interrelationship with other soil properties like soil texture, pH, and organic carbon. It was found that on the average, the soils of four villages were silty clay loam (having an average of 35.88% clay) in texture with neutral range of soil reaction (average soil pH of 7.4). The organic carbon and available nitrogen status were medium in Uttar Duttapara, Kurumbalia and Dasdia village and high in Mollabelia. The available P2O5 status in the soils of all the four villages was high but the available K2O status of all the villages under study was medium..
