Socio-economic factors associated with fuel consumption in rural areas (Rui watershed).

A field survey was conducted in rural areas around the Rui watershed in Jammu district, Jammu and Kashmir, India, to determine the patterns of domestic fuel consumption in relation to some socioeconomic factors. Results revealed, among others, that: the dependency on fuelwood increases with increased distance from the highway; the use of modern fuels such as LPG, kerosene, and biogas are prevalent only in the region nearer to the town and highway; and fuelwood consumption decreases with increased educational status and income..
