Further records of Megaselia rondani (Diptera: Phoridae), including two new species, from the crowns of ancient pollarded trees in England

Further records of Phoridae trapped in the crowns of ancient pollarded trees in the south of England are presented including the first records from a sweet chestnut (Castanea sativa) tree. Megaselia hatfieldensis Disney sp. n. and M. sornectergata Disney sp. n. are described and figured.We have previously reported on scuttle flies trapped in pitfalls set in the crowns of ancient pollarded trees in six sites in the south of England (Disney & Russell-Smith, 2014). The trees sampled were oaks, Quercus spp. (Fagaceae), beech, Fagus sylvatica L. (Fagaceae), hornbeam, Carpinus betulus L. (Betulaceae) and limes, Tilia spp. (Malvaceae). In this note we report on further samples from pitfall traps set in the crowns of ancient pollards in two additional sites, in one of which the traps were placed in the crowns of ancient sweet chestnuts Castanea sativa Mill. (Fagaceae).
